“Primer día” is a song for his daughter that reflects all of the fears and terrors he’s seen, and he looks at his little girl, knowing that she’ll grow up with her own fears. But a song like this, in Alex’s voice, with those urgent, husky guitars… it’s one of the most marvellous things about this album and about COOPER’s career in general, they achieve just the opposite effect of all the fear in the lyrics, and give off the necessary strength not only to deal with those situations, but to do so with surprising vitality.

“Cortometraje” is a sepia-toned postcard, a new look back to see that time does not forgive, but the song is full of the vitality of the best power pop, with flavors from both sides of the pond ranging from groups like THE THRILLS or ATTIC LIGHTS to VELVET CRUSH or FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE. Among these cinematographic similes there are bittersweet lines like: “Rodaste esta secuencia / cambiando de reparto / Yo ya no tengo opción / en tu guión” (You filmed these scenes / with different actors / I don’t have a place anymore / in your film).

On sale November 28th!

LA CASA AZUL is back with a huge collection of songs that will feed and light up the dance floors of half the planet, as well as the hearts of the group’s thousands of fans and followers who are spread out over all 7 continents. The album is an ode to escapism (usually denoted as the “cowardly” way of avoiding reality, but so necessary in our lives in order to obtain that balance that keeps us afloat) and to melody (that fundamental ingredient of pop music). Guille Milkyway’s new songs give proof of a love equally divided between Phil Spector, Norman Harris, ELO, THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, PIZZICATO FIVE, the RAMONES and THE STYLE COUNCIL.

“Alicia” is a restless sleep, beautiful, with a beyond perfect concept of pop, not too far from a perfect cross between THE BYRDS, TEENAGE FANCLUB and Josh Rouse. Though the most striking thing about this song may be that the last lines of the song perfectly sum up the feelings of grown-up revelations that run throughout the album: “Que el mundo nunca será / como cuando está dormida / todo es tan triste y extraño al despertar” (The world will never be / like it is when we’re asleep / everything is so sad and strange upon waking).

Here at Elefant Records we have no doubt that “Mi Universo” will be a key album in Alex Díez’s career. The album will mark a new highpoint in the indispensable musician’s career, which is already full of hits and memorable achievements. Recorded in Konk Studios, which were founded by Dave and Ray Davies (THE KINKS), and where people like Elvis Costello, THE STONE ROSES, THE BEE GEES and BLUR, among many others, have also recorded, it proved to be the perfect environment to capture all of the magic in these new songs.

And so, for such a special occasion, the corresponding tour is going to be totally different. “Internet Tour” will debut COOPER’s new songs.  Over the course of ten days, on ten different websites, the ten songs on the album will be debuted one by one, each with its own new video made just for this occasion. The album starts off with a declaration of intentions full of force and energy (a live version of “Mi universo” was previously released as a special single for Record Store Day), under the sign of redemption and self-affirmation. “Quién pasó demasiado tiempo / adoptando costumbres de caracol / Ahora no queda más / que sacar tus tristezas al sol”(Those who spent too much time / adopting the habits of the snail / Now there’s nothing left / but telling the sun your sorrows) is a hit.

There is a lot of fresh news for fans of AEROLINEAS FEDERALES, one of the biggest Spanish pop groups from the eighties, who released five fantastic albums between 1986 and 1991. After the insistence of their Peruvian fans, AEROLÍNEAS FEDERALES got together last spring to play two really successful concerts in Lima. Now we have the pleasure of announcing that this reunion tour is going to continue, with the band’s original line-up, for a few more shows.  The original line-up consists of Miguel Costas (who is also a founding member of SINIESTRO TOTAL), Luis Santamarina and Silvino Díaz, as well as Rosa Costas and Coral Blázquez, otherwise known as “the Aerolinettes”, who, although they weren’t with the group in the very beginning, have formed a part of the group since before they recorded their first album, and are a part of the most famous and stable line-up of the band. The authors of “No Me Beses En Los Labios” will get back on stage to play some of their greatest hits like, “Soy Una Punk”, “No Se Ligar”, “Oh, Que Pena Me Das”, “Largate” and “Hop Hop”. So far they have confirmed a concert for this coming November 5th in the Razzmatazz club in Barcelona, as a part of the series of concerts that celebrate the well-known club’s anniversary, and more concerts are foreseen throughout 2012.

We have been impatient for news about CORAZÓN ever since we got our hands on their second album, “Nuevo Futuro” in 2009, and we have been anxiously awaiting a new release from Carlos and Nando. We finally got what we wanted, in a digital single with a cover of a Roberto Carlos song as the title track, as well as two of their own songs. “Me Quiero Casar Contigo” belongs to the Brasilian singer’s early period, and it’s an exciting example of creativity and addictive melodies.  Between the 70’s styled choruses of LAS CORAZONADA and the keyboard arrangements of Antonio Galvañ (PARADE), those touches of personality that Ibon Errazkin’s production work gives are unwrapped to simultaneously create an homage to YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS. The song keeps the catchy spirit of the original but also adds a playful perspective and is full of fantasy. “Un Final Feliz Para Este Cuento” is an apology turned into song, sent in code to the person who understands the message. Within the psychedelic melodies and an air of classic romanticism a universal message of forgiveness and regret unfolds, done with surprising humility and tenderness. Closing the single is “La Fiebre de Carlos”, a song that already appeared on the farewell compilation for the Annika label. This song was a gift from Nando  to Carlos in 2002, during a time when he was ill. With a carefree but delicate air, like a JEANETTE in springtime, [ Read more ]

LA CASA AZUL’s musical universe is a continuous time travelling; “La Polinesia Meridional”, which packs in all of Guille Milkyway’s tastes, can sound totally classic, in the time-period sense of the word, as well as absolutely modern and ground-breaking. The album is a huge explosion of sounds and influences from so many different periods and styles, unprejudiced and exuberant in every way. The melodic elements of the album become the true protagonists over everything else. Despite having more complex structures than ever before, with layers and layers of sound, of distortion, of absolute noise, of multiple arrangements and general baroque stylings, what makes the songs on “La Polinesia Meridional” stand out is precisely their melodic components and the small details that form the s [ Read more ]

Time passes and the secret is out- little by little, like an onion which hides its sweetness between the various layers of skin sacrificed among the indulgent stinging. After the necessary recuperation of their first songs in “Fantasías De Un Robot Psicodélico,” the latest halo of admiration of this (former) Argentinean duet created by Mariana Badaracco and Pablo Dahy, aka, MODULAR, increases and converts them in the highbrow group that they already were for many for several years. “Sinfonía Para Terrícolas,” their first album conceived for Elefant Records is the recognition which will put them on a pedestal, that, without a doubt, they truly deserve.

“Sinfonías Para Terrícolas” started brewing right after the performance of MODULAR at the Indietracks Festival. Making the most out of their trip to England, Mariana and Pablo spent several weeks in the studio of Andy Ramsay (STEREOLAB) with demos of some of their songs and together with Andy and under the sound engineering supervision of Joe Watson (STEREOLAB, but also sound engineer for groups like THE HIGH LLAMAS, among others), they began to record the basslines, voices, percussion, piano, and synthesizers. Andy spontaneously offered to record the drums on some of the songs and experiment with Russian drum machines he collected over the years on tour with STEREOLAB – something which gave a fantastic and experimental groove to the album. Miguel Gutiérrez and Carlos Díez Díez are in charge of directing and producing SINGLE’s new video, putting images to Ibon and Teresa’s cover of the Lucía Bosé and Gregorio Paniagua song they recorded for their single “Noi Pomodori”. This is the third video that Miguel Gutiérrez and Carlos Díez Díez direct for SINGLE; they had previously produced the videos for ”Posponías” and “Fotos”, which come from the duo from San Sebiastian’s second album “Monólogo Interior”, already a classic.

This coming November 5th they will present the single “Noi Pomodori” in Madrid.

The complete renovation of the mythical venue Siroco is big news. The venue is located on San Dimas, 3 in the legendary quarter of Malasaña in Madrid, an area which has always been a symbol and reflection of the music scene in the capital city. We are ecstatic to announce that in October, Elefant Club will be born inside of this distinguished environment. The first Saturday of each month we are organizing special nights where we can enjoy live acts and special guest DJs with set-lists filled with various pop gems, starting at 9:30 p.m. and ending at 3:00 a.m.

The inauguration will take place on October 1st with live acts from the Welsh group, THE SCHOOL, the duet from Madrid, BAND À PART. THE SCHOOL has been recording their new album this past summer and we are sure they are going to present a promising set with the inclusion of these new songs from their second album, along with some of their hits from their last album, “Loveless Unbeliever.” BAND À PART has been one of the best groups to come out of the Contempopránea Festival this year and their performance at the Indietrack Festival in England was an event in itself. Special guest DJs for this evening include Guille Milkyway and Luis Elefant.

On Saturday November 5th, the release party of the single, “Noi Pomodori” from the band SINGLE, will take place, along with the performance of CORAZÓN. Knowing the restlessness and imagination of Teresa a [ Read more ]

Every time we receive new Giorgio Tuma songs at the Elefant Records office, we lose ourselves in elegies commenting on the infinite genius of this Italian songwriter. Capable of bringing tropicalia to Henry Mancini’s melodies, heir to the melodic deposits of his country’s greats like Gino Paoli, and fantastic dreamer of space voyages in the company of Brian Wilson, Giorgio Tuma’smusic is the perfect soundtrack for paradise. We can’t imagine any better music to accompany moments of ecstatic and infinite pleasure.

“In The Morning We'll Meet” was a necessary giant step toward world recognition for such an artist, as the prestigious magazine Mojo recently emphasized, when they gave his album four stars, and not without first inviting their readers to “succumb to the climax you can’t escape from, like those great seduction scenes”. And like a great seductor, Giorgio Tuma reveals his weapons one by one, always leaving us wanting more.

The latest is the digital single, “Innocenza Cetra”, a sublime love song taken from the previously mentioned album, and seems like a Mediterranean ode written under a blanket of stars, lulled by the swollen whispers of violins. “Montegrappa”, a previously unreleased track, is a clear demonstration of the terrain that Tuma is most comfortable in, with a jazz-pop full of delicate arrangements, winds that explode among synthesizers which make us lose our sense of gravity, a [ Read more ]
